So… About me. There is an interesting tension inherent to characterizing oneself. Each and every one of us is unique, yet we so easily find ourselves boxed in by words and defined by categories. To know about someone, you can read their vital statistics… You can make assumptions based on trends or histories. But to know someone, chat with them over a cup of coffee. Read their writing. Look at their art. Walk a mile in their shoes. That said, I am a neophyte demographic scholar, so I’ll categorize myself a tad and help y’all out.
My name is Jeff. I’m a UCLA student majoring in global studies. I’m a second-gen Taiwanese American (not too militant about that, though), born on the East Coast, raised on the West. I call LA my home now. I am a disciple of Jesus. I’m a UCLA sports fan like crazy. I have strong personal interests in cooking/food and China. I love peace. Academically my interests include the impact of economic globalization, the nuances of cultural globalization, hybrid ethnicity, urban issues, and China. Sometimes I self-identify with penguins.
